6-Day Temple Stay and Kumano Kodo Tour

This 6-day journey is crafted for travelers seeking a deeper, more contemplative side of Japan, following ancient pilgrimage paths through the sacred mountains of the Kii Peninsula. Blending forest walks, revered shrines, and an authentic temple stay, it offers a meaningful escape from the modern pace of city life — ideal for active travelers drawn to spirituality, nature, and timeless tradition.

Begin in Kii-Tanabe, the historic gateway to the Kumano region, before walking a scenic stretch of the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi trail from Takijiri-oji to the hilltop hamlet of Takahara. Stand before Kumano Hongu Taisha among towering cedars, pass beneath Japan’s tallest torii gate at Oyunohara, and journey on to Koyasan, the spiritual heart of Shingon Buddhism. Here you will walk the cedar-lined path of Okunoin, try your hand at sutra copying, and spend a night in a working temple lodging before ending your journey among the castles, temples, and vibrant streets of Osaka.

With a knowledgeable English-speaking guide, thoughtfully paced walking, and a seamless blend of transport by limited express, pilgrimage bus, and cable car, this tour offers a rewarding way to experience one of Japan’s most sacred landscapes. Please note that this itinerary includes walking on natural trails and is best suited to travelers with a good level of fitness.
