This 10-day journey follows Japan’s cherry blossom season from the old capital to the mountains and on to the modern metropolis. Travelling in April, when the country is at its most beautiful, you will move gently between Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyo, with a private guide on your sightseeing days and unhurried free time in between.
Begin in Kyoto, where the hillside halls of Kiyomizu-dera, the willow-lined lanes of Gion Shirakawa and the vermilion torii gates of Fushimi Inari Taisha are framed by blossom. Take part in a traditional tea ceremony, watch the celebrated Miyako Odori dance performance, and see Nijo Castle illuminated after dark. Travel onward by bullet train to Odawara Castle and the hot spring inns of Hakone, where a lake cruise and ropeway reveal Mt. Fuji across the water, and kaiseki dinners are served in your ryokan. Finish in Tokyo with Senso-ji Temple and Sumida Park, a day trip to the Great Buddha of Kamakura, the serene forest of Meiji Shrine, and an evening stroll beneath the lantern-lit cherry trees of the Meguro River.
With a knowledgeable English-speaking guide on your touring days, comfortable accommodation in each region, and a rhythm that balances iconic sights with quiet mornings of your own, this itinerary offers a seamless and thoughtfully paced way to experience Japan in spring — ideal for travellers who want to see the country’s most celebrated blossom destinations without the burden of planning them.
